The Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) is an enlisted rank aboard a navy vessel and an advisor for command staff and officers. They are the highest-ranking and most senior enlisted service members aboard a ship and are often rated with command billets for the position.

Senior Enlisted Advisors are a whitelisted role and prospective SEAs must pass an application and interview to qualify for the position ([1]).

Role[edit | edit source]

The SEA serves to instruct, advise and guide personnel of proper procedure outlined in Standard Operating Procedure, as well as provide knowledge of Space Maritime Law and, to an extent, the Uniform Code of Military Justice. They are a mentor and an instructor, and their job is to ensure that the command staff stays knowledgeable.

SEAs often have more experience under their belts than most officers, and as a result, are often more senior in experience than an average Lieutenant.

SEAs are also responsible for acting as a liaison and representative for enlisted personnel, and it is the SEA's job to recognize complaints from enlisted crewmembers and bring it up with officers.

Rank[edit | edit source]

Senior Enlisted Advisors are rated at Command Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9), and, together with the Captain and First Officer, form the "big three" of command personnel: the three most senior crewmembers permanently stationed onboard a vessel. Despite this, they are inferior in rank to any and every commissioned (and warrant) officer, and should not be acting as their superior. However, officers of grade O-1 through O-3 are expected to respect and listen to a SEA's advice, and ignoring such advice is not recommended.

Due to their command position, SEAs still outrank any other Master Chief Petty Officer onboard the ship.

NJPs[edit | edit source]

Senior Enlisted Advisors can hand out non-judicial punishments to enlisted crewmembers for non-judicial violations of the UCMJ. This can range from docking of pay, to physical training exercises (such as push-ups). The SEA cannot prescribe relief of duty without the consent of the crewmember's superior officer.

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • You are inferior in rank to any and every single officer in the game. You should not be ordering them around unless in a dire emergency. Prefer to advise instead of command.
  • You are not responsible for any operations activity onboard the ship. You act as an advisor, mentor, and liaison, not a commander.
    • Because of this, the SEA cannot be appointed to a command or department head position.
  • The SEA does not fall within the Chain of Command and cannot be called upon to act as the acting Captain.
  • You are not a combat role. Do not roam around as if you are Security and attempt to take down criminals or hostiles.
