The Research Director (RD) is the lead researcher aboard the ship, fiercely controlling barely keeping a grip on overenthusiastic Scientists, attempting to research treatment methods for the various viruses that mysteriously crop up, and the first to die whenever hostile forces appear.

Welcome to your new life of academic hell.

Playing as a Research Director[edit | edit source]

You and your colleague are directly responsible for the most dangerous members of the crew; these people can and will try to reinvent everything ever made, but generally with more explosions and unforeseen consequences. Your job is to prevent those explosions and encourage useful research. Weapons are cool but will probably damage the ship; try to direct research towards more helpful things, such as efficiency in the reactor core, or plasma-based materials!

Oftentimes you'll be requested to the bridge to give your input on some research data that has come through scanners. Adapt to the situation, and come up with something that's relevant but not too technical! You can request Medical or Exploration to gather/give you samples to experiment on, or just attempt to control your unruly subordinates and delegate tasks to them. Possibilities as a Research Director only end when you're court-martialed!

Roleplay Standards[edit | edit source]

See also the Guide to Roleplay.

You're expected to be at an elevated level of roleplay compared to the average Scientist, as you're a Head of Staff. You should at minimum be able to come up with interesting new ideas to research, and ideally be working with other departments actively to maximize the amount of actual roleplay. The more people, the better, unless you're all standing in a hallway.
