The 7x47mm CRC (Centennial Rifle Cartridge), known colloquially as the 7-mil, 7-47, or 7mm, is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge family. It is the standard intermediate rifle cartridge of the Sol Defense Corps, and multiple weapons, including the M7A3, SA-5D, TITAN-C, and DMR-225 are chambered in it.

The cartridge makes a step-up from previous calibers with higher-grade stopping power, ballistics, accuracy, and adaptability to different environments of planets, among other improvements, the round is propelled by a solid, self-oxidizing propellant that is designed to lessen carbon buildup on internal parts, reducing requirements for cleaning. The cartridge case is also made out of a specialty-designed polymer to absorb the heat from propellant combustion, improving the weapon's cooling characteristics.

Variants[edit | edit source]

The 7x47mm CRC has several variants for usage in various special applications. Special-usage cartridges are serialized as the M74 cartridge series.

  • M74: The standard variant of the 7x47mm caliber. 130gr FMJ bullet.
  • M74SBS: Subsonic variant of the M74. 177gr polymer-cased FMJ bullet. Effective for usage with suppressors.
  • M74AP: Armor-piercing variant. Tungsten-carbide tipped 141gr bullet. Greater effectiveness when used against medium to heavy armor, but over penetrates on lightly armored targets.
  • M74HP: Hollow-point variant. Reduced armor-piercing capability in exchange for greater wounding when used on unarmored or lightly armored targets. 128gr jacketed hollow-point (JHP) bullet.
  • M74MK: Marksman variant. 160gr supersonic FMJ round with heavier weight for increased stopping power and resistance to windage.
  • M74LE: Light explosive variant. Packed with a small explosive charge at the tip of the bullet that detonates on impact. Used strictly in anti-materiel and is illegal to be used against personnel. 160gr.
  • M74TR: Tracer variant. Red phosphorus-tipped 132gr FMJ bullet.
    • M74MG: Special variant of the M74TR used exclusively with the TITAN-C. Distinguishable with its brass casing and blackened core with a red tip.
