Venus is the second planet in the Sol system, after Mercury and before Earth. It is a colony under the administration of the Colonial Administration of Venus (CAV), home to high floating towers above the inhospitable atmosphere. With the CAV established in 2056, Venus currently houses a population of approximately 3.6 million.
Colonization
As Venus's surface is remarkably hostile and inhospitable for human life with its thick clouds and scorching temperatures, the colony bases on Venus instead lie far above in large, floating cities. These city platforms rest buoyantly from helium stored in massive tanks encircling the perimeters, allowing them to naturally float, while also being secured to the surface by several 5-inch-thick composite cables and buried five hundred feet beneath the surface.
The architecture of such cities has adopted a style of its own, modeling curved, sleek towers that appear like wisps of smoke; such an architecture has made the colonies of Venus look almost alien compared to the geometric buildings present on Earth.
Part of Venus's attractions includes a massive gambling culture, with prominent casinos and hotels often dominating city platforms. This has led to Venus itself being given the nickname "Space Vegas", a title contested by many floating casino stations across the solar system.
Platforms
Venus is home to five "Platforms": large, floating cities.
- Galveston (Platform 1) houses the seat of government for the planet's authority and is additionally the largest city on the planet.
- Pierre (Platform 2) houses the largest casino district and is responsible for giving the planet its nickname.
- Sylvane (Platform 3) is known for having a large green biodome in its center, named Sylvane Park, where large gardens house flowers and trees from Earth for sightseeing.
- MacDonald (Platform 4) holds massive carbon dioxide mining facilities and is home to several corporate offices.
- Abraham (Platform 5) is a platform currently under construction as of 2113; it is planned to hold massive housing complexes to potentially double Venus's population.
