The Great Gulf War was a regional war fought in the Middle East following the total drainage of any remaining oil reserves in the region, with the primary belligerents being the European Union with, to an extent, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; versus the guerilla Kalleda Group, a large terror militia with access to nuclear weaponry. It is infamous for being the second war in human history to make use of nuclear weapons, with the concept of nuclear weapons even being rendered impossible after the effects of the war.
Background[edit | edit source]
Middle Eastern Exhaustion of Oil (2038–2040)[edit | edit source]
The conflict began when all states in the Persian Gulf including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia gradually ran their oil reserves dry from 2038 through 2040, skyrocketing oil prices. As the oil drain outmatched predictions due to the ever-increasing oil demand by the rest of the world, many of the oil-rich countries were left with incomplete or nonexistent alternative income plans to the oil industry, effectively driving them into economic depressions.
Humanitarian Crises (2040)[edit | edit source]
The United Nations, then merely an advisory body to address world issues, announced a humanitarian crisis in the Middle East following the collective crashing of financial markets in the Persian Gulf, with Saudi Arabia being one of the hardest hit. Despite relief efforts launched by neighboring Turkey and the European Union, unrest began to grow in the region with many calling for more monetary assistance from the West-where such claims seemingly fell on deaf ears.
Consequently, the large amounts of protests sparked radical activity around Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria, with already-existent terrorist groups and militias gaining high amounts of soldiers to bolster their own forces. These newly-reinforced groups began launching more powerful assaults on opposition militaries, with high success rates.
Kalleda Union Formation[edit | edit source]
Founding (2040)[edit | edit source]
A public announcement was made on 6 May 2040 that several of the largest terror groups and militias had banded together under a single group, which they called the "Kalleda Union". The Union immediately launched an assault on Iran, with its revolutionary ideals even attracting several Middle Eastern military leaders and officers to defect to the Union's causes to help strategize attacks.
Attack on Iran (2041)[edit | edit source]
The new year of 2041 saw a massive Union-led invasion of Iran with the intent of capturing their military assets.
